Our Church

Wesley United Methodist Church - A multiethnic, international, upbeat, alternative church in Northwest Washington, DC., part of the Metropolitan Memorial Cooperative Parish.
Wesley UMC is a joyful and inclusive community of faith, deeply rooted in the teachings of Jesus and ecumenical in spirit. As a congregation we seek to embody what we long for the world to become: welcoming of all persons, respectful of earth and its creatures, concerned for justice and human well-being, alive with the arts, embracing of children, eager to defend the under-privileged and the vulnerable, open to grow and learn. We believe our faith calls us individually and corporately to practice love and reconciliation and thus join Christ's Spirit in building a better world.

Our Mission

Building an inclusive, caring Christian community that invites others into a deepening relationship with God and challenges them to grow as disciples for the transformation of the world.

Wesley Rocks!

What People Say About Wesley:
Diversity in DC Churches: Some may have read the recent article by Annie Gowen (Washington Post) about Calvary Baptist Church. Calvary Baptist Church has been proactive in "melding cultures in a diverse era".  This church should be commended for the steps it is taking to spiritually bridge together communities, in a city which is still noted for its socio-economic segregation.   New families, people young and old, often have to search for a church that they can call their spiritual home. Diversity in a church is not a nice to have but a true need to have.  Tomorrow's world will be a manifestation of the internet world; diverse, multi-lingual and integrated, whether we choose to embrace that impending reality or not.  In our own Chevy Chase community, Wesley United Methodist Church,  should also be noted as a truly international and multicultural church.  Radical hospitality is the norm, and people respect and celebrate each others similarities and differences.  There is real sense of community self. Wesley has had some services in English and Spanish and is reintroducing a bilingual Sunday school program.   The church  has a multi-award winning Afro-Latino ministry.  And the food is always international potluck style!  Wesley recently held its 181st Easter Sunday service this week.  It was a beautiful service. The church is not perfect, but it seeks to learn more and do better.   Wesley UMC would love to welcome you on Sunday at 11am.
